 Facts about Telangana

* Telangana means ‘land of Telugus’ and it was part of the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad.

* The total area of the new state will be 1.14 lakh sq km. By area, it is the 12th largest state, while Andhra Pradesh has moved down to the sixth position from fourth.

* It will have a population of 3. 52 cr (2011 census) putting it at the 12th position, while Andhra Pradesh is at the 10th.

* The state will have 10 districts – Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Medak, Rangareddy, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal, Karimnagar and Adilabad.

* Hyderabad to be joint Capital of Telangana and remaining Andhra pradesh - for a period of 10 years.

* It will be represented in Parliament by 17 Lok Sabha MPs and the state Assembly will constitute of 119 MLAs.

World’s Shortest Man

Measuring just 59.93 cm, Junrey Balawing, a Filipino who turned 18 on June 12 , was declared the world’s shortest man by the Guinness, taking over the title from Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal who measured 67 cm. Son of a Filipino blacksmith, Balawing stopped growing when he was a toddler.
